About Farm and Timber Properties
History
For Jimmy Thwaite, his brother Zach, and associate Mike Jones, managing and selling Southern forest and farmlands has been a career endeavor. Jimmy and Zach have been involved in real estate, forestry, and land management since the 1970s, serving both small landowners and large investment groups. Mike was raised in the forestry and forest products business, learning the ropes with his family sawmill, timber, and pole business.
Zach Thwaite got his start in the real estate business in the early 70s, focusing early on farmland and timber properties. As college roommates at St Andrews Presbyterian College, Jimmy and Mike spent weekends and holidays exploring and hunting on Mike’s family land around Thomasville, GA. That time together cemented a lifelong friendship and got Jimmy interested in forestry as a career.
Degree in hand, Jimmy went to work for a South Georgia timber company right out of college, but soon joined his brother in the real estate business. In 1987, Jimmy, Zach, and Ron Bowman joined with other partners and a European investor to form Flint Timber, a timberland investment company that remained active into the early 2000s. In the early 1990s, Jimmy also began an independent forestry consulting business.
In 2005, Farm and Timber Properties, LLC was formed as a new business entity intended to help landowners and investors buy, sell, and manage farmland and timberlands. Zach and Mike soon joined the new endeavor, bringing years of experience with real estate, forestry, and land management together again. Today, Farm and Timber Properties assists landowners and investors with a range of services including timber appraisals, sales and acquisitions, and planning for forest management and alternative land uses.
